80 Percent of China allegedly Toys Toxic Products
Approximately 80 percent of China products circulating in Indonesian markets using paint raw materials are not hazardous and environmentally friendly. These toys come from China allegedly toxic. This was conveyed by the Chairman of the Association of Activist Educational Toys and Traditional Indonesia (APMETI) Dhanang Sasongko, to Kompas.com, Jakarta, Saturday (13/3/2010).
This was revealed by research conducted by APMETI of toy products, China in 2007. "Based on our study, 3 of 4 China's toys are toxic. Approximately 80 percent contain lead and it was not worthy of consumption for the kids," he said.
Pascaperdagangan Asean-China free (ACFTA) China's toy products are increasingly flooding the Indonesian toy market. Not only that, the price is also more tilted than ever before. If the onslaught of products that China increasingly unstoppable, did not rule out a lot of toy industry out of business. In fact, today approximately 30 to 40 percent of toy makers chose to slam the steering wheel and move the profession into China toy seller.
"They're not capable of production because it was about. The cost of production is much more expensive than products in China. So they chose a China toy sellers," said Dhanang.
Actually, explained Dhanang, this condition has occurred since the 1997-1998 monetary crisis then. At that time, local product who slammed China products increasingly rule the market. After ACFTA applied, this condition is getting worse. "As a buyer's first monetary looking for a cheap, so who better behavior from China," he said.
Therefore efforts should be made to save the toy industry in the country. One is the government needs to immediately implement the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) obligatory for the toy. With the enactment of this SNI, automated markets children's toys in the country will be protected from non-standard products that use hazardous materials. "Therefore we urge the government to enforce it. So China's products are not reliable it will be limited," he said.
